Old World meets New Age
March 2008 - Beth Sutherland

In today’s global society, we’re able to tap into some non-conventional or alternative healing practices from around the world to round out the conventional Western medical practices.

With any illness, medical or emotional, it’s important that we explore all options available on the market to assist in our well-being. Take responsibility for your health and be an active participant. This holistic approach has been around for centuries; many people today are familiar with chiropractic, acupuncture, and naturopathy. This newer wellness industry has a groundswell of believers and it’s projected to have a 25 per cent growth in 2008. In the quest to make changes in your life, empowerment sessions will include any or incorporate all of the following modalities.

Medical intuitive – quantum healing charts
This technique is used to help the practitioner tap into the collective consciousness to uncover the original thought process that manifested an issue. By using quantum healing, you can get to the root of the problem so healing can begin. Deepak Chopra is a physician whose unhappiness with Western medicine led him to search for an alternative, and describes quantum healing:
“Quantum healing is healing the bodymind from a quantum level. That means from a level which is not manifest at a sensory level. Our bodies ultimately are fields of information, intelligence and energy. Quantum healing involves a shift in the fields of energy information, so as to bring about a correction in an idea that has gone wrong. So quantum healing involves healing one mode of consciousness, mind, to bring about changes in another mode of consciousness, body.”

Neuro-Linguistic Programming™

NLP is a behavioral technology, which simply means that it’s a set of guiding principles, attitudes and techniques about real-life behavior and not a removed, scientific theorem. It allows you to change, adopt or eliminate behaviours, as you desire, and gives you the ability to choose your mental, emotional, and physical states of well-being. NLP is delivered in a hypnosis style format; however, the client’s conscious mind hears all and is aware of everything discussed while the unconscious mind makes the changes.
“Neuro-Linguistic Programming was specifically created in order to allow us to do magic by creating new ways of understanding how verbal and non-verbal communication affect the human brain.

As such it presents us all with the opportunity to not only communicate better with others, but also learn how to gain more control over what we considered
to be automatic functions of our own neurology.” (Dr. Richard Bandler,
co-developer of NLP)

Healing Touch/ Reiki Therapy
Healing Touch is a complementary (or integrative) energy therapy that can be used in conjunction with traditional therapies or as a stand-alone treatment. It’s similar to Reiki Therapy because it involves the transfer of energy from practitioner to patient and claims to enhance the body’s natural ability to heal itself through the balancing of energy. Healing Touch and Reiki utilize specific techniques for restoring and balancing the natural life force energy within the body. It’s a holistic, natural, hands-on energy healing system that touches on all levels: body, mind, and spirit.

Kinesiology and Total Body Modification (TBM)
Kinesiology is a form of neuro biofeedback that allows the practitioner to access stressors to the body, whether they’re physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, electromagnetic, or energetic. TBM uses the same principle through reflex points clearing the pathway to the body’s natural promotion and healing of:
• Self-development
• Allergies
• Stress (emotional, physical)
• Fears and phobias
• PMS
• Anxiety
• ADHD
• Learning difficulties

“Kinesiologists use muscle feedback as a stress monitor to identify imbalances in their client’s structural, chemical, mental, and emotional energy systems. By correcting these imbalances the kinesiologist is able to re-activate the body’s built-in healing ability as well as identify external factors affecting the client’s well being.” (Dr. Bruce Dewe, M.D., international lecturer.)

Educational kinesiology
This form of kinesiology, from the work of Dr. Paul Dennison and his wife, Gail, is used to empower children and adults to utilize their full potential by accessing their maximum brainpower through a series of movements, called Brain Gym. Amazing results are produced understanding your dominance and creating integration and balance in your brain. “Movement is the door to learning,” says Dennison.

Each alternative healing modality stands on its own merit, or when combined with an empowerment session, can give life-changing results.
